I have used dfs in the past on a Windows Storage Server OS , but I'm researching the potential of doing more with dfs for our other file servers. Can anybody give me some "best practices" advice about using DFS in an AD environment? All the DFS instructions I have gone through walk you through setting it up on your file servers, but then I have read somewhere that the "right" way to run it is on your DCs. Storing the namespaces on your DC's makes sense to me, but I hesitate to install anything "extra" on my DCs unless I know its going to be ok to run it there. Right now I'm in the middle of upgrading my DCs to 2008R2. I have done my forest/domain prep and promo'd my first 2008r2 DC and should have all my DCs upgraded in a couple of weeks, but most of my member servers are still 2003R1. My objective is to be able to get away from problems like registry tattooing when a software install point has to move to a new server, or migrating user home directories to a new server, etc.

any advice, suggestions, pointers would be appreciated.
