Hi folks

I have just set up DFS on our main Domain Controller and would like the DFS base to appear in the Open File Dialog Places Bar.

I have edited the relevant Group Policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer\Common Open Files Dialog\Items displayed in Places Bar) so that one of the 5 entries displays the DFS: \\domain.local

When I use Explorer to open this location, I often have to try several times before the list of roots appears, and the same happens when accessing it from the Places Bar.

I was wondering if it was possible to tweak the system so that all roots were immediately visible to all users.

The DFS service is set to automatic on the DC. But, I do not know if there is anything else I need to do to guarantee availability (visibility) of the roots - they are present, just not showing up for the first minute or so when \\domain.local is initially acessed.

Can anyone help me with this please?

Thanks

Mark

Hi

Has anyone any thoughts on this please?

I don't know much if anything about DFS but one thing that sprang to mind was have you published your DFS root to Active Directory?

Hi Steve G

Thanks for the suggestion.

All roots are configured to be published in Active Directory. I have also just checked the settings for 'User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Shared folders\Allow DFS roots to be published' and it was set to not configured (which allows the roots to be published). However, I have changed this to enabled.

I have updated Group Policy on all the PC's in the network, but typing \\domain.local still does not display the roots the first time.

Thanks again.
