We have implemented a DFS namespace that replicates with another server. This work very well, however if a server goes down the time that the referral kicks in can take a while. I noticed that the cache duration for the namespace is 5 minutes and 30 minutes for the folders.

If I lower this to lets say 1 second would this cause network traffic problems? Does anyone have real world suggestions. I don't want the referral to change instantly (maybe in a perfect world) however anywhere between 5 and 10 seconds is good with me.

Any suggestions?
