Hi Everyone!

Just a quick query.

I have SBS 2003 Standard as well as a Windows Server 2003 File Server. I am about to purchase two more servers to be located at branch offices, but would ideally like to take advantage of the DFS features of Server 2003 R2.

Is it possible to upgrade anything to allow me to do this, or am I stuck because my SBS box is 2003 Standard R1?

Thanks,
Mike

Microsoft DFS is not supported or possible with SBS. Since the following items are not appropriate in a "Small Business" setting, SBS 2003 R2 does NOT support the following new features found in Windows 2003 R2:
DFS Names Spaces
DFS Replication
File Server Resource Mgr
Storage Mgr for SANS
Active Directory Federation Services

The R2 release for 2003 is the first time that SBS really does have limitations compared to its Std counterpart.

You may want to check the Microsoft owned company at foldershare.com for a cheap alternative.

OK - Update on this one.

I have successfully implemented DFS-R on my SBS2003 Standard domain.

All works well, I have a 2003 R2 server at both sites and they replicate files like a beauty, all that was necessary was to upgrade the AD schema to 2003 R2.

Recommended!

Mike
