i have a system with windows 2000 professional .
in that ifound some new things to me plz explain about them
in device manager i clicked on view , show hidden divices , then i got some strange things at network adapters section they are
1.direct parallel
2.wan miniport (ip)
3.wan miniport(ipx)
4.wan mini port(l2tp)
5.wan miniport(pptp)
and a new section called non plug and play devices what all thes can i disable these/uninstall these . are there any use with these ?

1. Direct parallel - your machine is capable of communicating with another PC by using it's parallel port. You can connect a special parallel cable between 2 PC's.

2 - 5. These are virtual ports that your PC sets up to handle communication over a WAN (Wide Area Network). For example if you install a modem it will use one or more of these ports. Don't worry about the other info (ip = internet protocol, ipx = internet packet exchange, l2tp = layer 2 tunnelling protocol, pptp = point to point tunnelling protocol) it is just telling you what protocols are available for use.

Non-plug and play devices are simply hardware devices that are unable to send their configuration information to windows so that windows can automatically configure them. These devices have to be added manually to device manager. Don't touch settings here unless you really know what you're doing.
