Hi I'm using Arcserve 11.1 in Windows with a standard HP SCSI HBA connected to a Quantum tape drive and for some reason it keeps going offline - I can make the drive come back online but need to know why its going offline.

I've looked through Windows Event viewer and nothing seems out of the ordinary. Does anyone know if Arcserve has log files I can check or any suggestions why its going offline.

Regards

Dave

Hi

I had a similar problem with a Dell DAT72 drive. It kept appearing offline. I checked the device in Device Manager and it had a yellow exclamation mark. I have no idea why, it had been working fine. I updated the drivers and turned the tape off, then back on again(!), and everything was fine after that.

Hope that helps

Check the tape.log fine for errors. Via the ARCserve Server Admin you can set it to Detail level or logging.

From within the OS Device Manager the tape device should be disabled. Having it enabled will just open up the possibility of software conflicts.
