I received an error 507 on the 6750 model when I was trying to use the Application Loader. The results were identical to what you report here.
It turned out that the Belkin Serial-to-USB adapter I was using was the culprit.
The connectivity was problematic in the sense that something was corrupting the data transfer in some fashion.
Out of the 4 I "killed" this way (2 on purpose to isolate the problem), all had to be returned as they could not be reset or made to function again.
