Development Hardware Opinion

Hey guys,

I know this isn't CNet, but I need a programmer's point of view on this one, not a word processor user.

I want to buy a new laptop, one for development primarily (so I can take it between home/work, and do some side projects). Do any of you use, or know someone who does use, a laptop for development? Or do you know of any good developer-friendly laptops on the market?

Compaq's Armada line of laptops are good computers -- lots of bang for the buck -- I have one that I like very much. You can buy them used on Ebay for under a thousand -- price will usually vary from around $550 - $900 depending on seller and model.

I will always buy used from Ebay rather than new... but that's just me. Many models still carry the manufacturer's warranty, and let's face it... computer hardware is generally pretty reliable anyway. I've owned some sort of a computer since 1983, and only cashed in a warranty once... for a bad hd earlier this year (which was purchased new, btw).

I've owned two Dell inspiron 4100's now and like them a great deal. Enough to get the same thing again anyhow. I've never had a issue with them and dell is riding the high life of the computer market rate now as for the rateings.

Although I like new things unlike Link9 You can find them for around the same price $600 to $1100 on ebay also.
