Hi All,
My company just upgraded to Access 2003. There seems to be this delay that I didn't experience in XP. For instance, it takes too many seconds to grab a control or to close out of a form or report. Has anyone else experienced this and what can I do? Thank you very much.

is your db sitting on a network?

is your report/form/control bound to a large/complicated query?

do you have name autotrack switched on?

Yes, the db is sitting on a network, but my colleagues don't have the same problem.

My report is not connected to a large/complicated query and I don't know where to find autotrack to see if it is switched on.

I have XP on my laptop, so often I will connect to the network and develop from there because I don't experience the same delays.

Thank you for responding.

name autocorrect is in the tools>options under one of the tabs...

Sometimes, xp experiances a "burn in" time, I dunno why but sometimes things are just slow and crash often during the first ever install of it...

I'd still say it's most likely due to network issues, maybe you just happen to be developing when network traffic particularly heavy...

Do your colleagues who don't have the problem, work with the same type of laptop connected in the same way? I'm wondering whether (for example) they have workstations connected to the network via a fast hard-wired ethernet connection, while your laptop is going via a slower docking station, USB link or wireless connection?

This might affect your machine's performance on the network.

If it will fit, try making a local copy of the database on your machine's C: drive, and see if the problems go away when working on this test copy.

If so, raise the issue with your network support people, to see if they can help ...

As an aside, I have Access 2003 running on my laptop under Win 2003 Server. Also on my laptop is Microsoft Virtual PC, under which I run Win 2000 and have Access 2000 and Access 97. Speedwise, Access 2000 under Win 2k under Virtual PC is faster than Access 97 under the same scenario. Access 2003 running directly on the laptop (without Virtual PC running) runs at about the same speed as 97 as above - ie SLOWLY. These comparisons are based on local mdbs - and are not timed, just the impression of waiting for something to happen after a click!!
