hi there
I have to develop an online forum and a BBS system for an existing website using ASP and SQL Server 2000.
Before i actually sit down to code i need to gather requirements about this. I was wondering if anybody could help me out in the kind of questions i should ask my client in order to facilitate me to build this forum. If possible could somebody could put down a list of questions which i should ask.

Please help

If you can find it, the ASP Bible by IDG books has a forum creation project in ASP from start to finish, including table structures, etc. You should check that out.

hi
thanks for the quick reply.....
Yes i would check that out but was just wondering that it would be too technical kinda questions. I really want some very basic questions which i can ask my client regarding this. It would be really nice if you could outline a few general questions.

Thanks once again

From Use Cases: Requirements in Context by Kulak and Guiney from Addison-Wesley

1. Identify the executive sponsor for this project.
2. Review existing documents to familiarize yourself with the history of the project.
3. What has been ruled out and by whom?
4. Who wants the forum built? Who does not want it built?
5. Have any canned solutions been considered? Which ones?
6. Who in upper management is aware of this project?
7. Get the executive sponsor's unique viewpoint.
a. What is the problem being solved?
b. Why is a system required?
c. Why is a computer system required?
d. Who will be affected by the system implementation? How?
8. Who will be using the system?
9. Who are the external customers outside the client's organization who will be affected by the system?

Another resource online talks about what you should be doing. Unfortunately not much about how to do it or what questions to ask.
