I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and get a warning that says my machine doesn't meet hardware requirements and that I should check Books Online. The Hardware Requirements table in Books Online indicates that the Processor snould be Pentium III compatible or higher with a minimum spped of 600MHz (1GHz or greater recommended) and 512 MB of ram (1GB or greater recommended)
The footnotes to the table indicate that if the processor type isn't met, the configuration checker will block the Setup, but if the speed or memory requirements are not met a warning will be issued and setup will be allowed to continue.

According to system properties, I have an Intel Pentium M (Intel centrino) processor, 1.4GHz processor speed and 2GB of RAM.

Is there anywhere I can look to see what the setup program thinks is wrong?

You'll be fine. Ignore the warning. Things might be a little slow at times if you try to work with a lot of data, but if you just needs the tools it should be fine.

Thanks, but I already tried that. I got to the point where almost everything failed to install:
MSXML6
SQLServer Database Services
Analysis Services
Reporting Services
Notification Services
Integrateion Services
and Workshop Components
all failed.

The system has Windows XP Professional with SP 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0.

The message indicates that I should check the log files. They look like a dump from my COBOL days. (Never was good at reading those things). I saw some statements saying the processor couldn't handle that service, and others saying that an install file couldn't be found (why not? shouldn't it be on the install disk?)

Don't know where to go from here except to blow out the whole hard drive and start reinstalling everything from scratch.

Post the log somewhere, I'll take a look at it.

Where should I post it? Each failure has a log file and they are rather huge.

Just zip them up, and upload them to any website that you have access to, then post the link here.

Thanks.
I bought a new computer, and did a clean XP install on the old one.

OOPS. that makes no sense.

...and SQL Server dropped right in without a hitch.
