What and why; is the best linux Distro for developing apps in (C++, Python, Java) ...Sorry I am new to linux and want to start out with the best configuration so I do not have to start over in the future... also I need a web server, and email server. I am going to be using this box mainly for developing in.

Thanks

Hi,

They will all do all of those things - except for highly specialised ones like smoothwall of course. The most widely used is probably redhat followed by Suse and Mandrake. Maybe Mandrake is best for a newbie but its really a matter of taste. But there are so many distros out there all with essentially the same packages and desktops (gnome & kde) - so its really up to you. See -->
Hope this helps
