Has anyone taken a look at SourceForge's open source .Net IDE alternative called #develop yet?
A search on "SharpDevelop" should get you there.
VB.Net support is there but weak. C# support is a bit better. It looks like a decent alternative to NotePad and manual compiles for those who are cheap/poor and honest.
I understand they hope to port it to Mono as well, providing an open source multiplatform development environment with some good chunks of .Net functionality.
Consider: Download the .Net Framework 1.0 SDK (free), #develop (free), Web Matrix (free)... and you have perhaps a nice little learning environment for students. Maybe even a production development suite for people with tight budgets.
Of course #develop is no VS.Net, but it beats NotePad.
I just installed it last night so I can't advocate it yet. Just wanted to pass the word. I'd love to see opinions of this thing.
