Hello,

Can someone advise me on the best size /dev/shm should be?

The server in question has 64GB of ram, when increasing the size of /dev/shm is there a max limit it can be?

Also where does the space get allocated from for /dev/shm?

It can be as large as physical amount of memory your system possesses. Some questions to ask:

* How much data do you wish to write directly to memory ?
* What type of application are you running where you need to
skip running from disk ?

The application that is causing the issue is Oracle11, the issue is arising when I attempt to create a database which I used dbca to create. From what I understand something has gone slighty wrong as the oracle parameters are huge when they should not be. So I will most likely destory the databases and re-create them with a much smaller SGA.

Doulbe check your oracle user limits (I know in aix it is ulimits)!
