Are these devices only created if a suitable "monitor" is attached to the machine? We have an E3500, and are currently using a laptop running hyperterminal as the console. We now need to run CDE/Openwindows. I have a monitor which we can use instead of the laptop - if I attach the monitor and do a boot -r, will this recreate the /dev/fb links?

look at devlinks && drvconfig man pages.
you don't need to reboot.

when they don't ask you anymore, where they are come from, and they don't tell you anymore, where they go ... you'r getting older !

Looked at using devfsadm (same as devlinks/drvconfig) but wasn't sure on the parameters to use when specifiying device class - man page says disk/tape/port/audio/pseudo are available

Any ideas ... In my case a boot -r is probably simpler :)
