Hi all,

I have two HP machines with external cluster. One is the live and the second is the backup. The /dev dir on live became corrupted, so I'm unable to connect/telnet...I would like to know the practicability of these 2 solutions :

1. Can I restore the dev from the backup to the live (machines have same HPUX version and same hardware) ?
2. I take daily fbackup of /. Can I use one of the last tape to restore the /dev ? If yes, how can I do such a thing ?

Any help welcome

Thanks

My suggestion will be to failover to the backup if there is no impact to the users then work on the /dev in that way it will not impact the users if something went wrongs.

For using the /dev from the backup server, it might not work cos the root disk might have different device naming though the clustered disks should have the same name.

Restoring the /dev seems to be a good option.

Are you using any backup software like omniback or Veritas netbackup ?

I was not using omniback or netbackup...

Finally, we had to reinstall the whole thing!

Even the /dev retore failed

HI,

since you already re-install your system, try to make a golden image of your server, try to use ignite. you can bring back your system with the same info and config.

good luck...
