What is the best way to determine the patch level of a Netware 4.x and 5.x OS?

Do a load install or install if NW5.x and it should show you which patches are installed and their levels. From there, you can determine what is needed. Noting that all patches are not always necessary, however, Novell will not support you if you fall several patches behind. So staying current is key, but only if you need to. If a service pack is released (version 1 of anything) I would wait, becuase Novell has in the past released follow up service packs because some glitch in an updated NLM has come to light and they either need to come up with a workaround or re-release.

Thanks. That's one place I did look. Does this mean that if a patch has been installed, a comment is automatically placed in autoexec.ncf by the patch process?

To avoid confusion, in NW5.x, the command at the console prompt to view/edit NCF files(among many other things) is nwconfig, not install.

On a 5.x server, at the console type VERSION and the result will also tell you your SP level. -----------------------------------------------------

TheLad,
Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for.
