I have recently restored a number of .doc files from an old backup.

The backup was done from an old Netware (4 or 5) server. I have restored them to an NTFS folder.

I cannot seem to open these .doc files in Word 2000. I am told they should have been created in Word version 6.0 or 7.0. I have tried opening these files as Word 6 and 7 files in Word 2000 but an error message says "The file is not the right type".

When I open the files as text only they look like a jumble of letters and special characters.

Any ideas how I open these???

Hmph.
Well, I have Word 97, which should open 6 & 7 version files, but I have no reason to believe 2000 wouldn't open them either.
Anyway, I'm willing to give it a shot: anne@vbaexpress.com
