What command(s) to I use in HP-UX to determine the type of drive connected to the system and how much space is available to be allocated.

Thx
Terry

use ioscan...
ioscan -funC tape

This will give you the info you need.
It also gives you a product number so you can search the web site of hp to find out what the device is(should it not be listed by 4mm or DLT in the ioscan).

You can also use "ioscan -funC disk" if you are looking to determine other disk types in addition to tape.

You can use "sam" to tell you about the LVM information:
Disk size, available space, etc.....

As mentioned above, use ioscan -funC disk to get all disk info.
To get info on the disk itself and space available, try the following command :
pvdisplay /dev/dsk/cxtxdx (-v option can be used for more detailed info)

Thanks to all who replied, all the reponses have been helpfull.
