Determine when an object was last updated (MsysObjects doesn't work)

I want to know when an object was last updated. MsysObjects seemed like a good starting place, but the field "DateUpdate" doesn't keep track of this.

Microsoft KB 299554 describes this problem.
I'm wondering if there is an add-on out there that can log when objects are updated and place this info into a local table.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
