Determine The Parent Group From Which A Drilldown Was Called

Hi,

Running CE10 on Windows 2000.

I have a quite complex report with 6 grouping levels. The user has specified that at the drilldown for Group4, to show all the Group5s under the Group4 headers, thus:

Group4 #1 (Header)
Group5 #1 (Footer)
Group5 #2
Group5 #3

Group4 #2
Group5 #4
Group5 #5
Group5 #6

etc

The user has then specified that they want to be able to drill down from here, on either the Group4 Headers and see the Group6 details for all Group5s in this Group4 OR drilldown on one of the Group5 Footers and see just the Group6s for this Group5.

I have got this working with extensive use of suppression based on DrillDownGroupLevel BUT my oustanding problem is with the subtitle on this Group 6 Drilldown.

If the user drills down from a G4 Header, they want the title to show "Group 6s For Group 4" but want it to show "Group 6s For Group 5" if they have drilled down from a Group 5 Footer.

What makes this more complex is that there may be one or more Group6 for either a paticular Group 5 or Group6. What I really need to determine, is from where this drilldown has been initiated. Is this possible? Or is there something really obvious that I am overlooking?

Many thanks for any help.

Hi Ido,

Thanks for the suggestion but, as a company, we have elected not to use subreports. The reason for this is that when looking back at a report that has been run some time in the past, you see the data as it is was when report was first run. However, if you then drilldown into a sub-report, it re-accesses the current data in the database to produce the report. Thus the summary report & sub-reports can be out of sync resulting in increased call load on the helpdesk and lack of user confidence in our reporting solution.

I was hoping there was some way of counting the number of Group5s displayed in the drilldown (as opposed to the number of Group5s ib Group4.) If this count is 1, then we know this drilldown was called from a Group5 footer OR there is only one Group5 in the Group4. Either condition would be OK to show "Group6s for Group5". However, I only seem to be able to count the number of Group5s in Group4, rather than the number shown.

Thanks for any more help that can be offered.

Regards,
Harry.

The only alternatives I can think of would require the use of a Crystal Report viewer application. If you must run the reports in Crystal designer, I don't see a solution.

Hi Ido,

We user CR to develop the report but its deployed on a CE10 implementation and the users use the ActiveX plugin to view their generated reports.

Harry.
