Hi,

CORBA client uses the Primary IP address. However,
how is the Primary IP address determined in Solaris 8?

Best Regards,
Ben

Might be way off here, but wouldn't that be the one in /etc/hosts beside the machine name? As I say, never worked with CORBA so I may be missing something.

When Solaris is installed all network interfaces are detected and you will be asked to select one of the interfaces for the primary interface. All other network interfaces are configured after the O/S is installed.

If you have more that one network interface, you will have a [tt]/etc/hostname.interface[/tt] file for each interface. You can and will have a different hostname and IP for each interface. This file holds the hostname for that interface, the IP for that name is looked up in [tt]/etc/inet/hosts[/tt].

The primary hostname for the machine is in [tt]/etc/nodename[/tt]. The primary IP is the one in [tt]/etc/inet/hosts[/tt] that corresponds to that primary hostname.

Hope this helps.
