detecting telephone rings 1

Hello there,

I want to develop a software that can speak typed text to phone after some numbered telephone rings dependinfg upon the caller-id.

so,
1.How do I detect the telephone rings,
2.How do I speak text to phone &
3.How do I detect the Caller-Id of the caller.

I am a VB programmer and I don't know how to deal with the hardware to achieve the above stated tasks.

Is there any VB code to commit the above tasks.
If so then please notify me, it's urgent....,Please.

I'm not sure what you mean by speak text to a phone. Are you saying you want to type and have the PC speak it, or are you wanting to speak into a microphone as if that was the phone?

The old skool method would be to open the com port, verify a modem is attached (Send AT and wait for the OK), put it into listen mode (ATS0=3), and wait for the "RING" response code.

But only mjk9564's reply was sound to be useful.I tried the link and found it useful. Thank you very much.

But still there are two conditions unsloved.
1.How do I detect the telephone rings,
2.How do I speak text to phone.

Speaking text to phone means I would type a text in a textbox and when pressed a command button it will speak that text to phone.

Please help to get over this problem.
Is there any VB code for the same?
it's urgent..... please.

Actually, chiph's info is what you need it you want your modem to detect that the phone is ringing.

Try a search on yahoo or google for "AT Codes" and/or "Modem command Strings"

Also, it sounds like you need a sound board type of device, like the old "bigmouth" that was used as a voicemail/answering machine.
