Detecting station on a network

Hi,
I'm trying to develop an application to deploy patch over a network. I want to detect all computers within a range of IP address for display purposes. Anybody knows how to make such a scan with VB6?
An other important note is that it has to work with Windows NT4, 2000, 2003, XP.
