I have videos from a client that I need to incorporate in my Director presentation. They are compressed using Windows Media Player 9 comperssion. I thought I was being all fancy and wrote a script to detect what version of WMP was installed on the users computer... if they did not have version 9 ... baOpen "the Version9Codec installer" which I downloaded from MS website. My plan did not quite work.. the codec installer installs the 9 player codec... but it does NOT upgrade the player. So even though I can technically play my videos now on that machine.. Director is still coming back with the fact that they still have WMP version 7. ahh.. what I really need to do is detect what codecs they have installed on their machines and I have no idea how to do that :( I could also try to write something that would say "if the movie does not play .. then launch the codec installer"

I need help :(

thanks!!! Dana

Detecting a specific codec would not be easy. If you know specific file in the WMV9 codec installation then you can check with baFileExists(). Perhaps you can check the installation log to find out - I had a quick look and "C:\WINDOWS\System32\wmv9dmod.dll" (under XP) may be the one you should look for, but may be not. If I were you, I wouldn't bother try detecting a codec!
