Hi
I’m trying to modify a report developed by somebody else. The details section is Format with multiple columns. I don’t know why I have the layout height set as 0 and inactive. I want to modify it.
Please Help

I am not exactly sure; but did you check the Section Expert and check if there are any suppress conditions?

Maybe someone else understands but I don't. You will need to explain the problem you have more clearly.

Pete

In Section Expert:
Details Section:
Tab Common
Tick Format with Multiple Columns
Tab Layout
Detail Size:
Width 9.765 cm
Height 0.000 cm
Height is inactive (light grey) and I can change the amount in it from 0 to any other amount

Sorry
In Section Expert:
Details Section:
Tab Common
Tick Format with Multiple Columns
Tab Layout
Detail Size:
Width 9.765 cm
Height 0.000 cm
Height is inactive (light grey) and I CAN'T change the amount in it from 0 to any other amount

I created a new report with multiple columns today and the height is 0.000 and gray. Are you trying to change the height of the details section. Can you tell in Section Expert, under Common tab which items are checked for the section you are dealing with. Also do you see any formula (x-2) button next to the items in red color?

That is how it is. If you want to control the height of the details section, just change it buy clicking and dragging the lower edge of the section. You can control the space between the Details lines by amending the "Gap Between Details" in the Layout section.

What is it that you are actually trying to achieve?

Cheers
Pete

Thank you both for replies. I solved my problem, but I’m still curious how could I modify the height in that box Detail size. I found an old report, which has the height active and you CAN modify it, but it has the Format with multiple columns checked but inactive???!!! In my report and in any another new report that I was trying, the height is inactive and I am curious why. In addition, I found in help:

Layout tab (Section Expert)
The Layout tab appears when you have the details section selected and the Format with Multiple Columns box is checked on the Common tab.

Use the Layout tab to set up your report in a multi-column format. That is, instead of having the data print straight down the page, you can set up multiple columns and have the data flow from column to column. You can also have your data print across then down the page, printing one record in each column, then printing a second record in each column, then a third, and so on. The dialog box is divided into four smaller boxes.

Detail size
This box enables you to specify the dimensions (height and width) of one detail. Determine how wide you want each detail to be (based on number of characters, font size, and so on) and enter that value in the Width edit box.

Determine how high you want each detail to be (based on number of lines in the detail, font size, and so on) and enter that value in the Height edit box.

Gap between details
This box enables you to specify the empty area (gap, gutter, and so on) you want to allow between details. Horizontal = the gaps between details going across the page, Vertical = the gaps between details going down the page.

Determine the gaps you want to allow. Enter the horizontal gap in the Horizontal edit box and enter the vertical gap in the Vertical edit box.

I've found the answer. The report has to be created as Mailing Label Report, not as Standard Report.
