Detail View Edit Textbox size 1

I have a working details view. When I click edit it opens up as it should. I have a description field that is in the edit moe but it just opens up in a single line standard size textbox. I can't seem to find how to manilpulate the size of it. There can be 500+ char's in it and I need it to be Multi Line wrapped and real wide. Can some one pont me in the right direction

convert the column to a template and configure the edit template.

Ultimatly I changed it to a template as you suggested and went into the design view and put in what I needed.
