Detail height option for multiple columns, NA

Hi,
When I am selecting multiple columns in details, in the section expert, under layout tab, the height adjustment area is grayed out, any ideas will be helpful. need answer ASAP.

The method I used was to create an empty text box. Then use Object Size and position, and set the X and Y both to 0 and the height to the height of my labels.

Resize the details section so it's the height of the text box and it all fits well on the printed page

Why is the Height Adjustment grayed out??? I have other reports that it is not grayed out on. How do I make the field "live"???
