Detaching embedded object from a notes Page

Working with Notes 5.0, I am looking for a way to detach file attachments from a notes Page (not a document) using lotus script. I am not sure if it is possible, yet I can see the $FILE variable in the document properties showing me the attachment is there.

How are pages treated in notes? as read-only documents? I do not see a lotusscript class for pages....curious if there is a page object.
