I am trying to setup some destination codes in my BCM 4.0 and I've noticed that some numbers are not available to me. Could someone please explain why they are not, and if there is anyway to clean it up so I have more of them available?
Here are the ones I cannot use, but that I would like to use:
1, 8, & 9.

Thank you!

It means those digits are being used elsewhere.

What do your DNs start w/?

What is the park prefix digit?

What line pool codes are u using?

Check all of the above?

DN's start with 4.
Park Prefix is 7.
Not sure about the line pool codes. I do have an access code of 8 under dialing plan - Line Pools.

we'll u've figured out why u can't use 8. 9 may be a destination code for route 000 as that's default. Check hunt grp DNs. Check starting digits of unused DNs also.

Yes, I found 9 in the destination code for route 000, good call!
I checked my Hunt Groups, they start at 01 and go to 30. Is this what is stopping me from using 1? That is my primary concern, I would really like to get 1 freed up to use.

So when I look at sets, it just shows me DN's all of which start with 4 as well as my apps.

Yea, and that is the one I need the most! I can set my park prefix to 1 or 7, its set at 7, but I can't use 1. If I set it to 1, I can use 7's. Its weird!

I was just coming into the forum to pretty much ask the same question. I will have to check on the items you mentioned and see what the situation is. I did not check all the destination codes but will have to do that also. Thanks for the insight.

You could have only one dn starting with "1" that will prevent you from using it.
To narrow down, take a phone and do "intercom" 1 then 0 to 9,as long as the bcm let enter digits it means that there is actually a dn that matches those digits. If you have 3 digits dn's it should not take long to find out the entire list of dn's starting with "1".Then you do a "change dn" for all of these dn's to dn that actually do not exist.(dn's that say "invalid" when you dial them and not "not in service"). Good Luck!

Well, we use 4 digit extensions, so that could take quite a while. I did however look at the bcm and went through all the DN's there, and they all start with 4.
I did find something though that might be causing the problem, I'm just not sure what it does.
Under Telephony-Dialing Plan-Public Network-Public Network DN Lengths, there is a DN Prefix of 1 and its DN Length is 11. What is this doing and is this the issue with me not being able to use the 1 for routing? And if so, what will it do if I delete it?

No do not delete that is for routing when you dial the dest code then a 1 it allows eleven digits to be sent to the CO.

I take it from your original post that this is not a new install. Before you made any changes, was 7 being used for anything else? It's been my experience that whenever you get down to where you are now, it has always been a target line assignment issue. Unfortunately there is no way to do a search on them (that I know of) so you have to go through each one and make sure that none of them have public or private received digits assigned that start with a 1. If you have a PRI where you need to assign DNIS digits for you main LDN, I always look at them first as that's the most obvious. If you have DIDs, it's going to take a few minutes longer. You should also check the hunt group DNs and their overflows as others have suggested.

Bottom line is, if you can't assign it to something like DN's, it means it is being used somewhere else and you have to find it.

BTW, what is it you want to assign the digit 1 to?

If you're sure that it's not being used anywhere else, there's always the old power off reboot!

Agree, it's a buried Target Line. Start at line 241, and search all Public and Private Received Digits.

Good luck.

Ok, could you please point me to what I should be checking? I'm not sure I quite understand what I'm supposed to be looking at.

This is not a new install, we've had the phone system for a couple years, but it was set to 3 digits for the extension. We've had to change it to 4. Our park prefix has always been 7.
The reason I need the #1 for routes, is I'm being forced to use the BCM in a way I'm not pleased about, but they want to setup 4 digit dialing between us and two other buildings. The other buildings are using 4 digit extensions (using non-bcm systems) and one building has 1 as their first digit, and the other uses 3 while we have 4 as ours. Hopefully that makes sense.
I'll take all the time it needs to check in all the places, I just need help knowing where to look.
Thank you!
