Desperately in need of help setting up tomcat

Dear all, I am desperately in need of some help. This virus that is going round today has messed up my computer so I had to completely wipe the hard drive. I am now trying to reinstall tomcat and am having terrible problems.

Here is what I have done so far

1) INstalled JDK
2) Updated path variable in environment variables
3) Installed tomcat 4.1
4) When I try to startup tomcat I get the following error message

"The system cannot find the file -Djava.endorsed.dirs=."


I do not understand this error message. I would be eternally grateful if anyone could tell me what this means and what I need to do to make tomcat work properly.
