I have a Linksys wrt54g Router and I am trying to set up a VPN Server on one of my Windows
2003 machines so that I can access my Network though a dial up connection using an XP pro
laptop.
So far, I have a windows 2003 AD server called Server1 running DHCP & DNS with the following
settings:
static IP of 192.168.13.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.13.1
I have another windows 2003 server called Server2 that is a stand alone server that is
running just as the VPN Server, this has 2 nics installed:
the 1st NIC has the following:
static IP of 192.168.13.3
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.13.1
this is for my internal LAN
the 2nd NIC has the following:
static IP of 10.1.1.1
subnet 255.255.255.0
no default gateway
and this is to be used for the VPN server (now I just made up this IP, because in reading
through the forum I noticed you have to have a different subnet for the 2nd NIC, so I am not
really sure what to use here, any suggestions would be helpful)
My Linksys Router has an IP of 192.168.13.1 for my internal LAN, the router is not set up to
use DHCP, because I use the DHCP from Server1 for my internal network.
Now if I run the VPN setup wizard on the Server2 2003 machine, I choose the Remote Access
(dial-up or VPN) option -> then VPN-> then it asks to choose the adapter that connects this
server to the Internet well neither does directly because they go through the Linksys
Router, but I ended up using the 10.1.1.1 NIC
Once the wizard finishes, it asks to set up DHCP Relay which I use my 192.168.13.2 Server1 because that is my DHCP server, I heard people mention that I have to open up port fowarding on 1723 and set IP 41 on the Router but I do not have the ability to set IP on the wrt54g only UDP and TCP ports can be configured, and if I use the DMZ option, the only way I can set that is to use the 192.168.13.3 because the only option available to fill in is the last octect, but I would think I would want to use the 10.1.1.1 adapter.
Basically I am confused as to what to use for the 2nd NIC's IP and how to allow the Linksys wrt54g router to forward requests????
PLEASE HELP!!!! I have checked all the microsoft and other threads in here but no one is specific enough.
Thanks, Jeff
