I'm looking for a way to monitor Desktop up time/downtime. Basically I want to be able to see if employees are shutting off there computers and night. I would also like it to monitor network connectivity of our servers/gateways. I am looking for something that does both and is simple to use. I have played around with Look@Lan and love the simplicity of it but I need a little bit more options. I have also played around with spiceworks but it is a little to robust and time consuming. I would prefer something more in the middle. I also prefer it to be free or at least inexpensive. Thanks in advance!

I rather enjoy watching a network with EtherApe.
Maybe not what you are seeking, but free with Fedora and probably other Linuxes.
