Hi,

I have a user who every few days looses a bunch of icons from their desktop and they are also being removed from the roaming profile.

i copy them from their old XP profile, they log back on and they stay there for a few days, then out of the blue, half of them vanish and we are back to square one?

any ideas why this is happening and how i fix it?

thanks,

Is this in windows 7 or XP? DO they use incredimail, email program?

Windows 7, we use outlook with exchange server.

They are using Win7 Pro, MS Office 2007 and connect to SBS2003.

All other windows 7 machines with MSO 2010 do not lose icons from desktop or profile.

Anyone? It is still happening.

All shortcuts to network resources such as PDF's , EXCEL Docs etc.. keep disappearing, we create them aqain then a week or so later they vanish again.

This is the only user with it happening.

permission on the profile folder might be screwed.

remove / rename the .v2 profile for now and let it recreate from the local workstation.

Hey i guess great minds think alike ;-)

Exactly what I've done, though it is a bit screwy the way the profiles work, as it seems to stamp them with only the users permissions, which then causes problems backing up the profile , So I have to add 'Administrator' to the permissions , which does on occassion as you say screw them up!

Let's hope this time they behave!

Well It's done it again, the user's icons have vanished from their desktop.

I deleted their old profile and let it create a new one, they added their shortcuts back to their desktop, it worked fine for a few weeks, and now their desktop icons have gone.

Having Googled, this is a known bug MS seem incapable or unwilling to fix.

There is a scheduled task that replaces the old 'desktop cleanup', which is arbitarily deciding to delete icons when they are being used.

you can either disable the scheduled task or edit the script and change the '-gt 4' number to something higher, i've set it to 4000 , so it shouldn't be bothering the user anymore!
