I have a W2000 Pro machine that I have administrative rights to. The only color resolution available in the display settings is 256 colors. Is there a way via registry to make high color available? I use a program that is almost impossible to see with 256 colors.

You are probably using the wrong driver for your display adapter. You would need to identify your adapter and get the right driver for it.

Also check that your graphics card supports the directx version installed. I used to have rage fury maxx and kept updating directx when a new version came up. I did not know it did not support directx 9 and after installing it, the graphics got screwed and I could not move out of 16 colours. I tried uninstalling directx, my old drivers and reinstalling in, but nothing worked, so a complete reinstall of the OS was the only solution
