Every now and again -- sometimes days, sometimes weeks -- my carefully arranged Desktop layout descends into chaos, with all icons pushed to the left of the screen. I've never been able to detect a pattern as to why this should happen, or when, but it's been happening for years on several different computers.

I can't see a way to save and restore the layout, and there's nothing in the FAQs here about it.

Anyone know why it happens, and/or how to stop it?

This is XP Home, by the way, with all current updates installed.

I have seen this happen before, when resolutions are played with, in games or when certain software needs a specific resolution to work. Not a fix, but it might help you figure out whats causing it.

Computers are like bikinis. They save people a lot of guesswork.

Thanks, CIP, I'll bear that in mind. I haven't touched the resolution, nor played any games, but I do use various graphics packages. I'll report back if I establish a probable cause.
