My PC (was Win 95 now upped to 98) after 5 - 10 minutes, makes a strange chirp from the motherboard and then the display appearance "scheme" automatically changes to "High Contrast Black Extra Large" I upgraded to Win 98 thinking this would cure the problem but it hasn't. I am at a loss?? I have a Trident video driver. Also just recently updated to latest virus definitions and scanned with Norton 2001

I have many years of PC experience but never seen this one?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just a thought....

Look in the Accessibility Options, sounds like something might have gotten turned on without your knowledge. ggebhart@clover.net
I hope I never get too old or arrogant to learn something new!

It also sounds like the video card may be overheating. If it's a Trident, it's most likely fairly old (relative in computer terms, old is anything over 3 years), and probably needs replacing anyhow. Don't forget that heat is the enemy of microchips, and the repeated heating up and cooling down of the video card is no exception. It simply wears out, and sometimes does not quit completely, but cannot maintain high resolution for extended periods.
You could also have a trojan (I forget it's name just now), but you can get "The Cleaner" from to check. It's free. Cheers,
Jim
