desktop api for hp scanner and fax

Has anyone come across vb.net or C# code to interface with an HP printer/scanner from a visual studio desktop application?

I would like to be able to interface with the scanner directly from my application. I know that you can configure HP printers to process document scanning from an HP provided utility, but I would like to be able to simulate that interface from within my desktop app.

A plus would be a way to interface with the faxing interface from my PC app as well by directing printed output directly to the fax portion of the printer.
