DeskStar/Western Digital Issues

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I have a two year old 60GB IBM DeskStar that has gone to hell like most of the line so I bought a new Western Digital hard drive because of the "copy old hard drive onto Western Digital" option. Unfortunatley they dont seem to want to work together.

I found the Master jumper cable setting that the Western Digital is happy with (I tried several before it was recognized) but the IMB DeathStar does not seem to be happy with any of its Slave jumper cable settings.

I would really like to save my data and settings by copying it all over to the WD....any help? Thanks.

Check to see if you need both drives (HDD) as a master - each on a separate channel. MaxBlast (Maxtor) works this way.

Any HDD that is set to slave is likely to get reduced bandwidth (more contention) and, as such, many conversion processes do not support a slaved drive as a conversion setup option.

Many WD drives have two Master settings: Master in a single drive setting, Master in a dual drive setting.

You need the second type of Master jumper setting.
