Deskjet 930C says cartridge not installed???

Brand new HP Deskjet 930C just out of the box, linked to Duron 800 on a Gigabyte mobo, 128Mb RAM, 20Gb HDD, running Windows ME. Prints test page and any documents (colour and/or black) ok, but every time before printer starts a box appears for about two minutes on the screen saying the black cartridge is not installed correctly - remove and reseat. Been there done that, makes no difference.

Cartridges are also brand new of course, but just before I return it to HP does anyone have any clues please...?

Try gently cleaning the copper contact strip with metho. Chris

Thanks for the tip Chris... Went back to user after two days of him putting up with that wretched message, and it suddenly disappeared without me doing anything! Now running ok... I guess this is the usual case of when the engineer stands over it, the equipment works faultlessly - as soon as he's gone the gremlins pop out of the woodwork!
