Desk top icons & taskbar triple in size

Hi
does anybody know what causes this problem were the taskbar and desktop icons blow up to half the size of the monitor it does not happen all the time but when it does the only way to fix it is to reboot the computer
The o/s is 98se

I've seen it a few times, i dont know what causes it. If you know your way around the desktop display properties by heart, you can tab and arrow your way to a different resolution which when you change it will return to normal.

boot to safe mode and check the dev manager for duplicates, delete any you find. then reset resolution and reboot, i hope its op sys or vid card, it cld be the monitor.
