Designing custom browser - Seeking Tips, Suggestions!

I'm designing a custom browser for a school project and welcome any sugestions as to:

1. Functionality I might add outside of the standard IE stuff.

2. 3rd party activeX controls that might be useful.

3. Experience you might have to share.

4. Other?
