Has anyone started using Rel. 2.1 of Designer yet, and if you have,
what do you think of it?

We used Designer/2000 1.3.2 quite a bit. The 2.1 look and feel is quite different and I think we'll need to get training on the new version. I am a DBA and we just used it to generate DDL and maintain a data model. We have not been generating Forms apps., etc.

I implemented 2.1.2 last month. Lots more functionality than 1.3. The product is much nicer than the prior version; but it does seem to be slower.
I think the slow process is caused by a memory leak. I am getting a memory leak. I have it implemented on a NT box, with Oracle 8.0.4. The leak is suppose to be with the design capture; but I have bounced the server, and have not been using design capture; and I am still geting memory leaks. I am also getting a currupt password file, caused by bouncing the server too often.

I also have found a "whole new look" to Designer 2.1. I have been able to get 100% generation on my forms, but really needed to mess with the generator preferences (and create preference sets) to get that to occur. I do think it flows much better than the 1.3.2.
The view creation leaves something to be desired when you want anything more complex in the select part of the view than "select col_name..." (ie "Select sum(col_name)"). In order for the repository to match our database, I have to make our views in the database and capture them to Designer. The Designer then generates the view with no problem.
i want a stepwise method to use design editor of OD2K6.0
dear sinistral
can you give me help to generate one form only with d2k2.1
many thanks to you
I use the E/R modeller => table definitions => scripts for the tables, and also the Forms Generator (for Forms 5.0) for one specific application.

I also gave a try at the Web application generator, but was rather worried by the volume of code generated (PL/SQL packages), compared to what it actually takes to do the job when you program it yourself (some pruning would definitely make sdense, in there!), so I left it alone for the moment.

Online help and "common sense" (as a Developer 2000 and PL/SQL programmer, and former Case tools user) are sufficient to build a comprehensive dB schema (still nagging at the replication part, though), and a set of rather cutomized, standalone forms (including custom programming).

See other thread for problems trying to get a form call another form with passed parameters...
