I think this is an odd design problem that has existed in Lotus Notes since version 4.5. I have posted questions regarding the is issue in several forums with no success or explanation so if you have any ideas at all, please post them, I'm very eager to understand this problem.
In Notes, we now have version 5.010, if you have setup Calendar and Scheduling, you can reserve rooms and resources two very different ways.
The first way is to simply open the Resources database and make a reservation.
The second way is to invite the room at the same time you invite everyone else. An invitation is sent to the resource database, processed by the agent, and if the room is free, you get it.
Here's the hitch. When you reserve a room the first way, you can type in the "purpose" of the meeting directly into the reservation. When you reserve a room the second way, by invitation, you can type in various details about the meeting in any of the fields provided by the client, but the information is never forwarded on to the resource database. You might get the room, but there is no explanation as to why it was reserved.
This makes room reservation via invitation somewhat inconvenient. In version 4.5, I added new lotus script code to the client and the agent in the resource database to accomodate this information. Now that we're on version 5, the code is very different and will have to be retraced.
DOES ANYONE THINK THIS IS UNUSUAL? I just can't believe that this issue hasn't been reported in some fashion to IBM or Lotus in the last two versions. I have a feeling that I have missed the boat on setting this up properly, or our funky organization just does things differently.
ANY IDEAS OR COMMENTS REALLY APPRECIATED . . .
Sincerely,
Tony Garrido
