I am using AutoCad 2000. I have an existing .mdb description key file. I opened it in EXCEL and made some changes. What type of file am I supposed to save it to in EXCEL then. .mdb is not an option. Then how do I get it into my drawing. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi LandSurvey,

I don't know what a description key file is, but is there some reason it can't just be saved as an Excel file?

Do you have Access on your computer? If not, you may not be able to even convert it.

How exactly does it need to appear in your drawing, does AutoCAD need to read the file, or do you just want it to appear as text? If it just needs to appear as text, you can copy and then do a psste special, and your worksheet will appear as lines and text.

Let us know and we can probably help you out.

The description key file is a list of possible descriptors that are associated with data points. When I bring the points into my AutoCad drawing it acts as a filter in a way and finds the description and then looks at the description key file to tell it what to do with that point. For instance, I tell it what layer to put the point on. So in response to your question, AutoCad needs to read the file. Would Access allow me to save or convert the Excel file to a .mdb? Honestly, I am not sure what kind of file I need only that it has the file extension of .mdb. If you don't know the answer to this, do you have any other suggestions to where I can find this out. AutoCad does not support 2000 version anymore. Thanks for your help.

Hi LandSurvey,

The good news is an .mdb file is an Access file, so you'll have no trouble opening and saving the file if you have Access.
