DERT with HFA v3 0.23.0 ?

Does anyone have the DERT with V3 0.23.0 or up? I only have the DERT with V3 0.18.0 which make IPphone in booting dead mode.

I just had to recover one on Friday and checked for a newer version before going to the site. There is not a newer version released to GA as far as I know. I also do not like release 0.18.0 because it seems to be the reason most of my phones that go into a boot loop do so in the first place. However it does solve the immediate problem and then I can push out the latest version with DLS....

Agreed. I have been waiting anxiously for a new one, because I'm having my fair share of problems with phones looping on that release. We started out with V2 R1.5.0 for almost a year and there were all kinds of problems that went away when Black Box upgraded us to V3 R0.18.0, but then phones started "bricking" and I was sending a lot of them in for warranty exchange. After I took Unify's Basic Assistant course the instructor told us the URL of the customer support center and encouraged us to sign up. After I got signed up on that, and I learned how to word the search query to best get what I want, I found V3 R0.23.1 and that seems to be a much more stable release, even though I've seen release notes for versions beyond that and they rattle off another whole new slew of problems that fortunately don't affect us. I've been hoping they would release a version of DERT on one of those releases. They are, however, quite clear that it is not considered a regular product and is only out there for emergency situations, so I assume there is no regular schedule to update it. It works good at what it does - I've only had to send in 2 phones since I got it, and both of those were for non-software related problems.

I have a 35G phone and trying to recover SIP Software. I have downloaded DERT with SIP V3 R3.17.0/V3 R3.33.0. The netboot status of the phone is

DHCP: OK
TFTP: OK
EXEC: No valid update script!
Netboot failed!
 
I know on the openstage phones you have to hold down 3 when you plug in the POE cable, or if you don't have POE you have to hold down 3 when you connect the power supply. I've never done the fancy new phones, and never done SIP.

Just throwing this out in space, but Unify does not mean this to be a production tool, so if you might be trying to take an HFA phone and convert it to SIP that may not work.

Prerequisites
You MUST use DERT in a seperate network environment in order to not interfere with customers networks (e.g. DHCP service). The following
hardware is required before you can start using DERT
Layer 2 network switch (no routing)
Power Supply Unit (PSU) if the network switch does not have PoE (IEEE 802.3af)
Download latest version of DERT from your known software supply source
Installation
DERT will be installed on your local machine in the Programs folder (x86). The setup executable contains all files and programs required to use
DERT.
The setup routine will automatically add firewall rules to your Windows Firewall configuration to allow DHCP and TFTP traffic to pass from the
phone to DERT. All firewall rules will be deleted at the time you uninstall DERT via Windows start menu or Windows control panel.
Configuration
After successfully installing DERT on your computer, you need to change the PC's network interface IP address which will be connected to the
network switch to the following address
IP address: 192.168.99.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: EMPTY
DNS: EMPTY
Start DERT
You can start DERT via the Windows start menu. Select "Launch DERT". The main menu of DERT will show you the current status of the

DHCP and TFTP server process. You can start or stop both services.
You can toggle between 2 operation modes whereby you can either overwrite any
user data on the device or not.
Not to overwrite any user data will allow to immediately return the device
to the user for normal usage
Overwriting the user data will return the device to factory default mode
The current software included in this packet will also be shown in the main menu
Rescue device
In order to finally start the rescue operation of the device, proceed with the following
steps
Start DHCP and TFTP server from the main menu of DERT
With PoE capable switch, press and hold button 3 on the device while
connection network cable to switch and device
or
Without PoE capable switch, connect the network cable to switch and device. Press and
hold button 3 while connecting the Power Supply Unit
Release button 3 when device shows "Starting netboot" on the display
The overall process may take 2-3 minutes to complete
You are finished if the device displays the message "NetBoot success - Press OK!"
Troubleshooting
In case you encounter problems with the procedure above, possible error messages are:
No NetBoot Server found! (DHCP requests remain unanswered)
File Not loaded! (TFTP inaccessible)
Download Error! (TFTP download issues)
The below list describes some actions that may help in troubleshoot the issues mentioned above.
Stop and Start DHCP and TFTP Server included in DERT
deactivate and activate the PC's network interface card, restart DERT and try again
Temporarily deactivate the Windows Firewall (since you MUST operate DERT in a seperate network environment, the impact
from security point of view is low)

I've converted HFA to SIP and vice-versa. Using the DERT tool is the easiest way to do it, but yes, sometimes it may not want to play nicely. I've always just used my laptop with a crossover cable directly to the phone, then powered the phone with a power supply. That eliminates the possibility of any outside problems. Plus you can throw it all in your laptop bag and fix phones on the go. Many a phone that would normally be considered broken, I've been able to fix with DERT. The big one is phones that are stuck in a reboot loop.

Once in a while you can get your Deployment Server (DLS) to convert a phone. You just have to make sure you check the box that says "Derestrict and deploy independent of the device type". If you have more than a couple of phones to manage and you don't have DLS, get it!! The software with the basic features is free and it will save you a lot of time and headaches.

I used many times DERT for HFA phones in version V3 R0.16.00 and i never havd problem (at OpenStage 40 phones), maybe is better to use this version.. [thumbsup2]
