I've installed SQL 2005 reporting services on my laptop running WinXP SP2. Our current SQL Server is still running 2000.

After creating a report and tried to deploy it. I get this error:

A connection could not be made to the report server Unable to connect to the remote server

In visual studio, look at the properties of your report project... there should be one called TargetServerURL that contains a URL... Type that URL into a browser address bar and see what happens.

It's currently //localhost/ReportServer. Another thing, when I tried to setup RS, since port 80 was already taken I had to assign port 100. Now do I use //localhost:100 instead?

I suggest using the web browser to figure out what it should be... when you get the correct address it should show the root of reporting services in the browser.

If the reporting services web site is running on one of the Server operating systems like Win2000Server, 2003Server, Advanced Server... then it's verison of IIS will support multiple web sites.

If this is the case then you could add a second IP address to your web server... just go into the advanced TCP/IP properties and add a fake address in one of the private reserved ranges like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x Now go into IIS and change your existing web site from using "All Unassigned" IP Addresses to just using the REAL address. Finally you add a new web site and change it from All Unassigned to your new fake address.

im having the same problem.
i typed the targeturl into my browser and it brought me to the root. im not changing anything witht the ports....is there anything that might be wrong with mine?
