We have over 800 users that connect to our network via only dialup, never on Lan connections. Is there a best practice or optimum setting within ePO to update them more frequently? Ive tried connect at dialup but, it doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Our other 4500 user's report that 98.9% of them have current dat from week to week

You can configure those 800 machines to a separate group to run an AutoUpdate task on Dial-up. Be sure to use the incremental updates, you know, those small 100k-150k .UPD files from NAI's FTP site. If you can mirror the FTP site to a local shared folder on the network, point these dial-up machines there to have a quicker update. xDAT files are huge on a dial-up connection although they're pretty quick on the LAN.

BTW, you don't have to run the xDAT files every week. :)

Could you elaborate on how ePO detects a dialup connection? My share on the server looks like this (C:\Progra~1\mcafee\4245) this is where the unc is pointed to for the update task. The contents of this directory are robo copied out to 27 sites. This allows me to download, test and run the robocopy. TIA

Sorry, I thought .upd file's ONLY included the deltas from week to week. If you missed a weekly update, you would be missing a portion of your virus dats. If im wrong please explain the difference. Why shouldnt I run xdat every week? Thanks

You'd need to have all the UPD files (if needed) on the same share to make sure that anybody who missed a weekly update or two gets it. The DELTA.INI checks how many incrementals are needed.

As for running the xDAT, there's no issue on running it weekly, although there are better ways of doing it.

Also, ePO detects a dial-up connection by monitoring the DialUpAPI(?) in the OS. If this is activated, the agent would know that a dial-up connection has been established.

Where can I find this option ?

You can get more information from your McAfee SE (that's where I got it).

Hi

In Addition to this situation the ePO Agent conect to the epo server in 5 diferentes manners:
1. When you start a LAN session
2. When you activate the agent wakeup call
3. When the user gives click in the check new policies in the agent
4. When the timer complete the time
5. And when youy initialize a session LAN via RAS

So you may configure a task for this group using a schedule to activate the task every log on.
