Deploying a WAR file

Hi I'm Pretty new to WebSphere.......

I'm running V5.1 and I'm trying to upload a WAR file from my local machine using the Administrator console/Applications/new Apllication method

I get an error message when I try to upload it -
The EAR file could be corrupt and/or incomplete.

java.lang.ClassCastException: com.ibm.etools.commonarchive.impl.ArchiveImpl

Could anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
