Deploy vs Process

I'm trying to understand deploy vs process in SSAS.

My understanding was that you first build, then deploy, then process.

When I went in that order (First Build and then Deploy), I got errors on the Deployment. But once I tried Process first and then Deploy I received no errors and was able to Deploy.

Can someone explain the difference and why it worked when I first did Process and then Deploy?
